Investigations on kidungan, a form of traditional Javanese poetry, have been gaining momentum. However, there is a lack of comprehensive reports exploring the value of Javanese cultural wisdom in relation to social dimensions, symbolic politics, and educational values as reflected in kidungan. This study aims to address this gap by delving into the social dimension, symbolic politics, and educational value embedded in traditional Javanese poetry, specifically in kidungan ludruk. The research data for this study is sourced from ludruk performances broadcasted by Radi Republik Indonesia (RRI) East Java and expert interviews. The data collected were then analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques, employing an ethnolinguistic research approach. The findings of this study revealed that ludruk kidungan serves as a social representation of traditional society, encompassing various aspects of social dimensions, symbolic politics, and educational values. An important implication of this study is that kidungan has the potential to contribute to the development of sustainable knowledge, particularly in the fields of culture, politics, and education.

This research aims to deconstruct the Management Control System (MCS) concept using the cultural framework of Catur Purusa Artha (CPA) in Hindu philosophy. Balinese people believe that culture is always inherent in all their activities. Adopting a postmodern paradigm and a binary opposition synergy methodology inspired by Lyotard's perspective, the study produces a CPA-based Management Control concept, which consists of four parts. In the first part, the Dharma element finds a sense of family, open management, and communication, which are synergized with the Standard Operational Procedures (SOP). In the second part of the Artha element, there is fairness and efforts concerning employee performance measures and work plans, budgets, and expenditures. The third part contains various desires in the Kama element, expressed as integrity, empathy, and trust in synergy with implementation. The final part is the estuary of the goal, namely honesty and a sense of belonging from the elements of Moksa, which is a synergy of reporting, supervision, and audit.

This study investigated the utilization of visual communication in e-learning within higher education institutions, commencing with the formal initiation of the e-learning program in March 2020 and extending through September 2022. The researchers utilized Bloom’s taxonomy framework to assess the effectiveness of hybrid learning approaches in practical education, focusing on knowledge, skills, and competencies. This study used an experimental methodology to examine the potential advantages of utilizing e-learning platforms for visual communication students in their acquisition of applicable materials. In their empirical study, researchers tracked two groups of twenty students: experimental and control. The results revealed that there was statistically significant improvement for the experimental group after the changes were implemented, which suggests that the methods used were effective. Therefore, scholars must dig further into these questions and design novel approaches to e-learning if it is to become a standard teaching method, especially in higher education.

Higher education’s independent curriculum and mainstreaming are studied using mixed techniques. This qualitative and quantitative study examines how social mainstreaming in curriculum construction affects educational outcomes and social involvement. Focus groups and in-depth interviews with curriculum developers, educators, and students comprised qualitative research. Understanding social mainstreaming perspectives, experiences, and curriculum design was the goal. Using survey and institu-tional data, we measured independent curricular social mainstreaming frequency and impacts. Social mainstreaming promotes inclusive, equitable, and socially conscious learning. Integration improves student progress and societal responsibility. Research demonstrates variable social mainstreaming effects in independent curricular development, requiring a focused approach. Resource restrictions, change unwillingness, and mainstreaming ignorance complicate implementation. Higher education institutions, policymakers, and educators seeking socially meaningful and effective programs are affected by this study. The recommendations to promote higher education social mainstreaming showed that curriculum influences students' social attitudes, promoting social transformation.

This paper briefly introduces Bakhtin’s dialogism and the two basic concepts of the self and others. A detailed descriptive analysis of Lin Yutang’s translation reveals that Lin Yutang displays his dialogic consciousness in his awareness of others, which can be drawn from his statement about the translator’s responsibilities, namely, the responsibility for the author, the reader, the sponsor, and even the arts. The authors point out that Lin’s consciousness of dialogue is the key factor for his successful dissemination of Chinese cultures to the West. Then, by tracing back the original roots of Lin’s consciousness of dialogue, the paper digs into his views on Chinese and Western cultures. It is expected to illustrate the applicability of Bakhtin’s dialogism in translation theory and unveil the dialogic nature of Lin’s translation thought as well, hoping to provide some guidance for the contemporary dissemination of Chinese literature and classics.

Women in Eastern culture are often thought of as “the other”. Similarly, feminism in Indonesian literature is also considered a contemporary literary phenomenon in the 21st century. However, according to our research findings, feminism in Indonesian literature has been present since 1901, during Dutch colonialism. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate how feminism is represented in Indonesian literature. The source of this research data is Four Novels by Ki Padmasusastra (FNKP), published between 1901 and 1924. We used qualitative methods to analyze the data. The results showed that FNKP is a postcolonial novel that represents feminism and educational values. Feminism in FNKP was influenced by the Dutch during the colonial period in Indonesia. The authors seek to show that feminism is not at odds with Eastern culture but rather reflects its diversity and complexity. Through literature, the authors seek to educate readers about the similarities and differences between Eastern and Western cultures and how they can coexist in modern society.

This study examines the resilience and challenges faced by indigenous children in pursuing their career aspirations in 1930s colonial Java through the children’s novel “Bocah Mangkunegaran”. Using a descriptive-qualitative method and drawing from postcolonial theory and reader-response perspectives, it explores the impact of colonial contexts on their career ambitions across various sectors. Their career choices in trade, agriculture, craftsmanship, palace guards, and the arts reflect their ability to overcome challenges and demonstrate unique resilience. For instance, in trade, they leaned toward entrepreneurial roles, seeking independence from colonial influence. Similarly, in agriculture, they aspired to roles like water custodians, emphasizing the importance of these positions. Their career paths often mirrored parental influences, integrating cultural heritage. Their roles as palace guards highlighted the complexities of indigenous children within the colonial structure.

Subtitling is one of the most widely used translation practices in the localization of video games and enjoys great popularity among end-users. Given the language-bound nature of subtitling practices, the present study seeks to shed light on the subtitling practices followed in Persian game localization and empirically provide a descriptive account of how game localization is carried out in the Iranian context. To this end, five video games were tested and played by the authors, and 300 subtitle segments were extracted from each title (totaling 1500 subtitle segments) and their respective translations in localized versions (totaling 3000 segments). Subtitles were analyzed in terms of subtitle length and segmentation, font (size adjustability, type, color, and background), character identification, sound effects, emotions, and line breaks. It was revealed that the Persian localized versions were very similar to the original regarding font, character identification, sound effects, and emotions. However, subtitle length and segmentation varied between the original and localized game versions.

Interlanguage pragmatic studies predominantly focus on teaching and learning English as a second or foreign language. However, there is a substantial research gap in understanding the interlanguage characteristics of those learning English as a second language, particularly within the Saudi context. To bridge this critical gap, this paper undertakes a comprehensive examination of the interlanguage pragmatic competence exhibited by a cohort of 51 High Achievers (HAs) juxtaposed with 48 Low Achievers (LAs). A Discourse Completion Test (DCT) and the Scale-Response Questionnaire (SRQ) were administered to elicit request utterances. The paper concludes that HAs tended to use a wide range of linguistic forms in using mitigated request expressions significantly compared to LAs’ performance. Regarding the influence of contextual variables, HAs showed more awareness of both social power and distance compared to LAs. In conclusion, there is a robust connection between language proficiency and the pragmatic competence of request acts among Saudi learners.
